RASFF 2019

Traditionally, the findings of the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) of the past year are presented at our first Masterclass. This year, we are presenting them with a slight delay during our second Masterclass. A summary of this OVOCOM training has just been posted on the webpage RASFF (Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed).

This analysis of RASFF overview remains a very useful tool for implementing and updating your hazard analyses.

Summary of RASFF 2019 overview

This summary report summarizes the findings based on the data available in the RASFF overview, which we have supplemented with details on one or the other case.

Table of RASFF 2019 overview

The complete summary of the opinions issued by the European rapid alert system RASFF during the year 2019 is also available in full, in the form of a table in Excel format. The document available for consultation contains more than 1400 hazard/product combinations. These combinations are established from Feed data, but also from opinions concerning foodstuffs potentially usable in animal feed (on the basis of the name listed in the European catalog or on www.feedmaterialsregister.eu).

The analysis of RASFF overview on foodstuffs from an animal feed perspective offers a real 'benefit':

  1. The number of data is far more significant compared to the exclusive feed RASFF analysis. The hazard analysis is therefore potentially more relevant and more complete.
  2. The inherent risks to certain products can be (better) understood because they can sometimes be used in both food and feed.
  3. Former foodstuffs and food industry flows (such as bakery products, cookies, chocolate, etc.) can be processed into animal feed. This is an interesting assessment that limits the waste of resources. Nevertheless, it is sometimes not easy to determine the dangers inherent in these products. This summary makes it possible to highlight the deviations observed in relation to the requirements in force for human food. In this way, a possible impact during possible use in animal feed can be better deduced.
  4. Possible emerging hazards can possibly be highlighted.

The methodology applied in 2019 to compile these data is specified in the annual synthesis.

Note: the documents that can be downloaded from the RASFF webpage are only available for companies with a login and password (more information).
